AP: The Word and The Spirit

Jesus said, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23–24). The Lord was speaking here of the age of grace. We’ve lived in that age for nearly 2,000 years. And Jesus emphasized that in this age our worship of God and our relationship with Him must be “in spirit and in truth.” What is truth? In John 17:17 Jesus said to His Father, “Thy word is truth.” We must, in this age, live and minister in God’s Word and by His Spirit to be effective.

As we prepare to minister and then actually carry out the work, our goal is to help each person learn to do God’s Word and flow with His Spirit. In our own lives, our one-on-one ministry, and our corporate meetings, the Bible and the Spirit are preeminent. We defer to them. Only as we do that will we carry out our God-given assignment.
